- Koyama, Kosuke
- (b. 1929)Theologian.Koyama was born in Tokyo in 1929 of a Christian family. He was educated at Tokyo Theological Seminary, Drew University and Princeton Theological Seminary in the United States of America and at the Ecumenical Institute of the World Council of Churches in Switzerland. He has taught in Thailand and New Zealand and since 1980 has been at the Union Theological Seminary in New York. His works include Waterbuffalo Theology, No Handle on the Cross and Mount Fuji and Mount Sinai. His theology is seen as a meeting of East and West, Buddhist and Christian, rich and poor. It has no overarching system, but is a prophetic response to the complexities of the modern situation in which ‘a broken Christ heals a broken world’. He attempts to offer an agenda for Asian theology and he is an important figure in the development of a global Christianity.D. Ford, The Modern Theologians, Vol. 2 (1989).
